Trinidad Contractors Limited was awarded a subcontract by a Canadian firm based in Montreal, Canada in March 1986 to erect approximately 3.5 miles of Steel and Woodstave pipeline along the Cumberland River on the North Leeward side of the island of St. Vincent.
The pipeline project was divided into 3 distinct parts:
1. The Transportation of Materials to Site.
2. Steel Pipe Erection
3. Woodstave Pipe Erection.
The Transporting aspect of the work involved loading materials from the yard and transporting to the work site, about 4 miles away and offloading there.
The Steel Pipe erection consisted of the installation of pipes on concrete pedestals or in trenches underground or on bends embedding concrete and anchor bolts.
The erection of the Woodstave Pipeline involved placing cradles (which form the lower third of the pipe) on previously prepared gravel beds, setting bottom wood staves and coming up with staves at the sides until the full circle of pipe is completed. The operation was carried out successfully.
