Scope of Works

This project is located along the Windward Road in the village of Blenheim, Tobago.
This job was originally tendered as a four segment box culvert but Trinidad Contractors Limited proposed to design and construct an alternative bridge structure which was not only superior to the original design but it also offered cost savings to the client. On this basis our design/ build proposal was accepted.

Our reinforced concrete design featured a foundation of 22 No. 800mm dia. Cast in place augured piles, constructed in a river bed of cobbles, stone and running sands. Baroid Trinidad Services Limited provided technical support in the use and application of “Flowzan” drilling fluid to maintain hole integrity. The piles were socketed into 2 metres of bed rock.

Trinidad Contractors Limited is the first company to manufacture AASHTO Type Prestress Beam on the job site in Tobago and to the best of our knowledge also the first company to build cast in place auger piles socketed into bed rock in a river bed of cobbles, stone and sand.

This structure was designed with three spans of 11.5m each which incorporated 33 No. Prestressed Truncated AASHTO Type III Beams – all constructed on site, the RC diaphragms, 200mm thick reinforced concrete deck slab, side walks, parapet walls, run on slab, hand rails, utility duct and pipe rack all making up the bridge structure.

It is our hope that the technologies that were successfully used on this project will now enable us to revolutionize the way bridges are built in this country and the region. As we continue to innovate and engineer new ideas and concepts in an effort to offer the construction of superior type structures in the remote areas at very low cost.
