Project Details

Ø  In early 1991, Trinidad Contractors Limited completed the Reconstruction / Repaving of 13 km Roadway for the Tobago House of Assembly using Cold Mixed Asphaltic Concrete.

Ø  The project involved the Rehabilitation of an existing road from Roxborough on the East side of Tobago over mountainous terrain to Bloody Bay covering a distance of 10 km and widths varying from 10 feet to 20 feet.

Ø  Initially, 1600 metric tonnes of Crushed Slag and 4,000 imperial gallons of Bitumen were transported from Trinidad to Bloody Bay, Tobago and used for filling and patching all potholes and depressions.

Ø  Similarly, 4,800 metric tonnes of Cold Mixed Asphaltic Concrete was manufactured at our Asphalt Plant in Trinidad and transported in three shipments to Tobago using our tug and barge. The cold mixed asphaltic concrete was laid to an average thickness of 1½” in two layers using a Barber Greene Asphalt Paver and 10 tonne Rollers.

Ø  Some improvement to the existing drainage system was also carried out and the project was completed in April 1991.

Commendations
“The quality of the work was exceptional. The once tortuous route became an enticing and enjoyable scenic drive. Very much attention was paid to the smallest of details. Anything that the contractor observed was likely to contribute toward rapid pavement deterioration was corrected before the final overlay was put in place”.
